Prediction

Aborigines had the ability to detect(foresee) the climate changes or natural calamities. Some sorts of beliefs like this are still existing in Kerala.

If a group of dragon flies fly descending, rain will come. And if black moths fly high, it informs the arrival of rain and if it is white moth, rain will go.If ants are carrying their eggs to somewhere else, rain is about to come.Farmers could predict rain looking at the changes on earth. They say it as ‘Nilam Pazhuthu’(Earth is ripen). A special colour of light will spread on earth.

If ‘Konna’ (Cassia Fistula) blooms early , early good rain will come. Frogs fetch rain with their prayer (Crying). Peacock howls before rain as ‘Mazhe Vaa…’(rain may come…). ‘Kulakkozhi’(Water Fowl), ‘Mongam Kozhi’ ‘Mazhakkochi’ etc will also inform rain. That is the time of their pairing.

Some people predict rain by looking  at the roots of banyan tree. The blooming of plants such as ‘Muthala Moorkkan’ and ‘Kallichedi’ indicates rain.If birds are flying back to land, it says that a heavy rain is coming.Monsoon is the reason for ‘Chakara’(Occuring of mud banks and appearance of plenty of fish for a short period)
